Durham
City is almost 2000 years old and is a favourite place for many when it comes to Christmas shopping,
with its Victorian Streets in door market and festive street lighting.
Not just a good place to visit at Christmas, but though out the year
Durham City has some thing to offer.

door market has a host of specialists shops and stalls, some sell hand made
Jewellery The ideal place to purchase the special present. Durham City is
easy to get to by road just off the A1M just follow the signs, or come
by Train . Which ever way you decide it will be well worth the trip.
It
has all the top shops and brands with a large amount of smaller specialist shops. The
market place has just been redeveloped with new sand stone which should
last a thousand years
The Market Place is also set out to mirror a Victorian Christmas
event, with a Victorian fun fair, a Punch and Judy show to keep the
children happy . St Nicholas church in the market place which dates back
to
medieval times has a mock stable out side to house a manger with live
animals and baby Jesus . Its very popular with school children who like
to see the animals.

Durham Castle

Durham
castle built my the Normans in 1072 when William the Conqueror invaded
the country in 1066 and divided the land amongst
his cronies and massacred them who rebelled. To day its occupied by the
University of Durham and available for hire .

Durham Cathedral built in 1093 attracts visitors for
around the world to this world heritage site which is a master
piece of Norman craftmanship.
York City just about an hour on the train
, and is another lovely place to
do Christmas shopping, with its narrow Victorian street which are full
of little gift shops, with its street musicians , entertainers and
carol singers it is full of the Christmas Spirit .
